What we see in Parkside
Parkside sits across Greenhill Road from the parklands, and its housing runs from small Victorian cottages on the western streets to substantial villas closer to Fullarton Road. Almost all of it predates the Second World War.
The cottages throw up a specific constraint: minimal wall cavity, solid masonry, and no subfloor access in some. Adding points or rewiring means planning cable routes carefully rather than assuming a cavity is there. Party walls on the semi-detached pairs rule out the obvious runs entirely.
The other Parkside pattern is infill. A lot of properties here have had rear extensions, granny flats or garage conversions added over decades, often with wiring extended off an already-loaded original circuit, sometimes with a small sub-board that was never properly labelled or protected. If you've bought a Parkside cottage with an extension on the back, working out what's actually feeding it is money well spent before you add anything else to it.
